I’m worried that I won’t be able to physically make it through class. What should I expect?
This is the #1 fear of those that first walk into boot camp. Let us begin to ease some of your fears then right off the bat. We’re only going to ask of you whatever you’re willing to offer. We encourage you to ease your way into boot camp during the first week, allowing YOU to choose your own intensity by offering you either a beginner or an advanced exercise option. No one is going to yell at you or ask you to do more than you can so you can put your fears aside. Because if you were asked by someone (not us) to do 100 push-ups right now, how many would you be able to do? Five? If someone screamed in your face, that’d make a huge difference wouldn’t it (note sarcasm)? Of course not. That’s why at St. Louis Fitness Boot Camp, if you’ve got a pulse and a willingness to put forth your best effort, that’s all that’s required of you. You’ll do so well, we absolutely believe in you!
We do not. The main reason is that the morning is often the one time that we can schedule time for ourselves that is rarely interrupted by the demands of life. Besides that, exercising early in the morning “jump starts” your metabolism, keeping it elevated for hours, sometimes for up to 24 hours! As a result, you’ll be burning more calories all day long-just because you exercised in the morning. Studies have shown that exercise significantly increases mental acuity, a benefit that lasts four to ten hours after your workout. Exercising in the A.M. means you get to harness that brainpower, instead of wasting it while you’re snoozing. Many people find that morning exercise also has a tendency to regulate their appetite for the rest of the day. Not only do they eat less (since activity causes the release of endorphins, which in turn diminishes appetite), they also choose healthier portions of healthier foods.
You can begin tomorrow if you’d like! We’re all about taking immediate action so there’s no waiting since there’s unlimited room for new boot campers. We’re always in session, year round. You’re free to show up at any scheduled boot camp class and begin whenever you’d like. They’re people just like you! They’re individuals who may not feel comfortable within a gym and also don’t have the motivation to consistently do exercise DVD’s at home. They want the support and guidance of a personal trainer and they’d rather work out with friends than by themselves. Although they may have different goals, they support each other in achieving them. If you’d really like to see immediate results, we highly recommend coming at least 3 times per week. However, we offer classes 6 days a week and you can pick and choose from any or all of them. We’d love to see you as often as your schedule permits!

FUN! And challenging. It’s difficult to describe a “typical day” since each workout program is intentionally different to alleviate boredom and to give you maximum results in minimum time. Most people feel some soreness for the first 2-3 days. After that point, the experience of soreness is little to moderate and it’s part of the process that lets you know you’re improving!
We do not. If you are trying to negotiate having enough time for work, there are many members who leave 10 minutes early at 6:20 AM when we conclude the exercise portion of the class and begin stretch & cool down. Depending on the class you attend, boot camp ends promptly at 6:30 AM and 9:30 AM.

Great question! Some people don’t like to workout right after having eaten something while others, feel they have a hard time getting through class with enough energy without eating something. Many of the boot campers say they enjoy eating a small piece of fruit or some eggs or oat meal before class. We would recommend avoiding anything that is highly acidic like coffee, milk, juice or Nutella crepes. (well, maybe that last one is just for Johnny)
Honestly, there really isn’t an “average” aged boot camper. We have men and women, 18-65 year olds, all shapes and sizes, and all fitness levels. This boot camp welcomes you, no matter what, because it was founded on the premise of unconditional acceptance both from the trainers and fellow boot campers. Many of our boot campers have stayed for MONTHS and are loving it because of the highly supportive atmosphere!
Don’t let having an injury keep you from trying out boot camp. If you are working to overcome an injury, we’ll be right there with you to help recommend an alternative exercise should the one that is planned be too challenging. All activities are structured so that you can choose the appropriate intensity for your fitness level while also allowing you the flexibility to change the exercise to accommodate whatever specific needs you have.
Our exercise routines vary each and every day to maximize your results and to stimulate your fat burning metabolism. A common misunderstanding is that to lose weight in a specific area, you should target exercise to that area. However, the truth is that your body gains fat as a whole and will lose fat as a whole. Muscles can be isolated for growth, but fat cannot be isolated for loss. Over the course of a week, daily exercise routines are designed to maximize weight loss and increase strength throughout the entire body. All you need to bring is a positive attitude. The hardest part to starting any new exercise program is getting yourself to walk through the doors so knowing this, we try to make the rest of it as easy on you as possible. We’ll provide music, the exercise equipment, the workout routine and the support group. There is a water fountain in the hall, but most people bring their own. We take care of the rest!
Wear whatever clothes and shoes are most comfortable and that you’re willing to sweat in. Though boot camp is held indoors, when mornings get chilly the addition of a sweatshirt is also recommended.
Yes, there may be times especially in the winter months when inclement weather will force us to cancel boot camp class for the day. For the safety of all our boot camp members, if inclement weather seems imminent for the following morning, a decision will be made and an email notification will be sent prior to 8 PM the night before to ensure everyone receives notification in time. Our first priority is for the safety of our members, whether it be in transit or during class, and we appreciate your understanding.
St. Louis Fitness Boot Camp is an ongoing program. After all, it’s a lifestyle change. You’re welcome to join for as little as one class or stay on board for the long haul like the majority of our members.
